Curriculum First Heads North

After a very chilly (but warm-hearted) visit to Ontario, Canada in January this year (Polar Vortex chilly, Record-Breaking cold, massive snowfalls), I was welcomed in June with the exact opposite. Glowing Montreal sunshine – Sultry Ontario summer days (maybe a little too hot, given the current situation with forest fires).

 

Aside from the weather, what was really memorable was the increasing recognition that curriculum management is critical to the student experience and future success during trying financial times.

 

At the ARUCC (Association of Registrars of Universities and Colleges of Canada) Conference in Montreal, registrars discussed the importance of verified program and course pathways for students and the critical requirement for public and internal course catalogue/handbook currency and accuracy. They also emphasised the need for seamless integrations between academic systems.

 

Quality Assurance Directors (at the inaugural Canadian Professional Quality Assurance Network in Hamilton, Ontario) reflected on the use of detailed curriculum mapping to provide evidence for government accreditation requirements, professional accreditation submissions, and internal quality assurance of curriculum at all levels.

 

At the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education conference, also in Hamilton, senior academic leaders focused on the importance of robust governance practices for new and evolving programming, as well as enabling continuous curricular improvement through rich reporting and analytics directed toward program and course data. Assuring the authenticity and integrity of assessments was also front of mind for this national group.

 

We were excited to be able to discuss the benefits of Curriculum First as a total curriculum management platform addressing all of the above requirements, and to form some great relationships within Canadian universities and colleges along the way. The ability to add more international members to our vibrant user group will be beneficial to everyone as we explore how to leverage our increasingly sophisticated functionality and extend the benefits of our digitised curriculum.
